Weaving and felting

In the past years felting has become popular due to the rise of interest in old artisan techniques. There is a significant difference between  cloth and felt. Felt is made out of animal hair. After kneading it in hot water the hair can be made into the strong material called the felt.
Weaving and felting played a big role in the Sekler rural communities because it used up the raw materials produced in the locality. Up to the 20th century women in almost every home created the clothing for their family and themselves. This activity was mainly practiced in winter. The technique is based on the vertical and horizontal threads placed in the loom.
